A Nobody Who is a Somebody

In  “The Overcoat”, by Nikolai Gogoi, Akakly is a very strange character that we really now in our world now n’ days, In the text, we only hear about him towards the bottom and the text characterized him as a person “Who loved so entirely for his duties.”  and that he “…Labored with zeal: now, he labored with love.”, and that “Enjoyment was written on his face…” Akakly was proud to work and he was proud of what he did, yet no attention was ever shown towards him, ” ..it is impossible to say that no attention was paid to him. One director being a kindly man, and desirous of rewarding him for is long service, ordered him to be given something more important than mere copying.” , this quote shows that not people noticed him and, the words they use to describe how Akaly acted and his emotions turn his character into someone who is proud of what they do and a hard worker, someone who doesn’t need attention to get things done. This makes Akakly out to be what some people “A Nobody Who is a Somebody”.

Death To All

I believe the main theme of “Anthem for Doomed Youth” is the horror of war, and how the young, “die like cattle”. The second poems main theme is the lose-lose situation of war, the author uses this theme to show that there really is never a win in any kind of war. The authors use different but, similar techniques, and rhetorical devices to push out the theme of each poem, those are the ones listed right here, alliteration, simile, personification, implied metaphor, and consonance to get the idea of his anti-war sentiment. Both poems are about the war, but, use theses different rhetorical devices to point out here true themes. In the poems, both are written at different times and different things but, still very similar in the devices they use to pronounce their own individual theme. In the “Anthem for Doomed Youth”, we in the first line personification where the “Cattle”, is the youth/ teens that are killed from the war and that there are many “wails” from the “Choirs” that are supposed to be the parents of the mourning from the lose of there kids from the war. In the “War works hard”, we see similarities in the two like the themes, the first poem is about the horrors of the war and the second one is the idea of there is never a winner in the war, both are about death pretty much and how no matter what there will be death that follows war. The second poem in the first line we see

“How magnificent the war is!

How eager and efficient!

early in the morning

it wakes up the sirens

and dispatches ambulances

and to various places

swings corpses through the air

rolls stretchers to the wounded

summons rain from the eyes of mothers

it produces the most questions

in the minds of children

and urges families to emigrate”

This whole verse is from the point of view of someone who loves war, they love the idea of it, and this is the opposite of what the author’s point of view. The authors just use this to go off what the author truly believes. The whole poem is to show that the war is an all day everyday job and that no matter what the end of the war is there will never be a winner in the idea of war.

Both poems are used to who that war is not something someone wants in there lives, both poems use there own rhetorical devices to point out that war is like a horror movie you never want to see and that it is something that you never want to be involved in because if you are then you just signed your death wish or someone else’s, because there will never be zero deaths in a war but, hundreds of deaths in a small one. Both poems are very eye-opening on the idea of what people went through back then and even with the poems time difference they are so similar in the time  they are trying to set for the idea of war and the loss and the work of it.

The Juul Room(s)

In my English class, we are doing a thing called “4 Level Week” and for one of our standards we are to read two articles talking about vaping, and how vaping needed to end with teenagers. In this blog, I will be comparing and contrasting the way the authors get there points across and what evidence they use and how they use their evidence and what each article is more geared towards.

In article one  “E-Cigarette Use Doubles Among US Teens, National Survey Finds”, We can already tell where they will be getting their evidence and how they will use it with the words “National Survey”, throughout the article we see that the writer was more geared towards teens, we see with the different surveys given to student in grade “8th, 10th, and 12th… In hundreds of schools”. So article one is more gear towards and factually based on the students in the “…Hundred of schools” the survey was taken. In article two Vaping Reaches Epidemic Level, FDA Warns”, again with the first article we can already tell what this article is going to be about, but also where they will be getting there information from, and that would be the FDA. In the start of the article the author just hits up with the quote  “has reached an epidemic proportion,” the leader of the Food and Drug Administration said last week.”, and this shows us that the authors like to put evidence to draw us into what they are about to write about in the following passages, to continue through article two, we see that the author gets quotes/evidence from higher up the branch, by that I mean from people who are actually out of high school. Article Two is more appealing towards adults like teachers, parents, or any adult of any age who are near kids ages 11-18 years of age. Both articles have good evidence in two different points of view but, I believe article 2 would be because fit for there evidence, because they have people who are actually commissioners and part of a group that is trustworthy but, I also believe that article one has more evidence then article two, Both authors though I feel, do not do well putting in the evidence of the articles but, If I had to choose I would say that article one inputted the evidence better than article two. In conclusion, both articles are similar in different ways, but Article two in my own opinion is better than article one.

Logical Fallacies–Old to Modern Twist

In my English class, we are learning about Julius Ceaser and we were told to analysis the text of Act 1 Scene 2 of “Julius Ceaser” by Shakespeare but, to also recreate the argument between  Cassius & Brutus.

There are many fallacies in the whole play of “Julius Ceaser”, but for right now we will focus on just Act 1 Scene 2 of the play written by Shakespeare. Cassius and Brutus are arguing back-n-forward about if  Julius Ceaser needs to really die to save Rome. We see many fallacies from Cassius and Brutus in this scene.  Some of the fallacies that were used in this scene were Blood is thicker than water/Blind loyalty, Appeal to self-deprecation, Leading the witness, and Bandwagon. These are the different fallacies that are used in their argument and they all have some sort of connection between all the fallacies listed but also in the script that We read in our English class. Cassius used these fallacies to try and get Brutus to be on his side of the whole situation but, we see that Brutus doesn’t have Blind Loyalty like Cassius because Cassius is dedicated and he tries so hard to make his opinion more truthful than Brutus’s knowledge. The scene is sorta hard to understand reading it only one time but reading it multiple we see both of there opinions on the subject.

My Translate/Copy of there argument:

This is about a Teen wanting to go hang out with her friends without her parent chaperoning.

Lisa: Hey, Dad are you busy?

Dad: Well im just fixing the brakes on my car but, I think I can take a break.

Lisa: Okay, I just wanted to ask you something?

Dad: Yeah, what were you wanting to ask?

Lisa: I just wanted to know if I could go hang out with Lizzy this weekend?

Dad: Okay, what time do we need to go to the mall?

Lisa: Well I was wondering since I’m 15  if it could just be my hang out with Lizzy at the mall?

Dad: Well it will be you and Lizzy, but with me in addition. so what’s the problem?

Lisa: look Dad I love you but, I just want to be independent with life.

Dad: So, you don’t need money, or a ride, Nor’ someone to pick you up, or feed you?

Lisa: well yeah I need those things, But I just want it to be just me and Lizzy at the mall, It’s not like I don’t need you.

Dad: Well I just don’t think you need to be alone with Lizzy.

Lisa DAD! Your such a buzz kill, I am 15 and everyone else hangouts without their parents there, it’s not like im going to run off, and you could just track me on my phone just so you can know where I am.

Dad: Lisa, I just worry about you and I understand you are growing up to be a strong independent lady but, I will think about letting you, but young lady never yell at me like that again because, there are sometimes you should yell but, I am your father and I deserve more respect.

Is 4th Of July A Scam?

In the speech “The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro” July 5th,1852 by Frederick Douglass, Douglass uses certain words that many people wouldn’t use and he uses the repetitiveness of certain words and phrases to get his point across and his feelings towards certain things. The whole point of the speech is saying that the fourth of July shouldn’t be celebrated that its pretty much a sham to the slaves in the years of slavery. Douglass uses phrases like “Fellow Citizens…” to show equality, he repeats this 3 times in the first 3 paragraphs, and he uses that phrase strongly to show that they are equal to the whites. There are also other phrases he uses to demonstrate this like “…Mournful wail of millions whose chains, heavy,  and grievous yesterday are, today, rendered more intolerable by the jubilee shouts that reach them. ” This phrase is saying while the whites celebrate freedom there are still human beings out in the world who don’t have the freedom like the whites. Douglass also says “…with all emphasis I can command, everything that serves to perpetuate slavery, the great sin, and shame of America!”, he uses the words “sin” and “shame” because he views the fourth day in July as being fake like a person who says “Stop being fake” that’s what Douglass is saying to America. Douglass also uses a grammar technique to point out his thoughts and that is instead of commas he uses Semi-Colons, a semi-colon is used because it indicates that the sentence could have ended but Douglass was not finished he wanted to make sure he got his point across, that people saw how America really was and why they should not have Fourth Of July as a day of freedom, he believes a day that should be celebrated is the day where everyone Whites and Blacks are equal to one another and where there is no more slavery this world.  As we can see there’s no more slavery so, which means his speech did wonders, but it was also the redundancy, the meaning of certain things, and a grammar technique that helped him get his point across throughout his speech ” ” The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro” July 5th,1852″.

I’m Going To Live Forever!!!!

In the article “can Human Mortality Be Hacked,” it tells us about what it is and how it would work but, the main this is what is the Author’s Perspective or Opinion on the whole situation. Now throughout the whole thing, we see him say good things and have some good non-personal sources. They get quotes from his sources like ” …your average life span would be 1,000″,  author then goes into how it would be achieved, what other techniques are used, how big the movement would be for them, if the scientists are on board with this project/ research, Is superlongevity is truly important, and the cyborgs among us; now most of what the author has written in the article has been positive but if you look at the name of the subtitle for the paragraph to come you see the bit of hesitation like the names ” Are Scientist On Board, Is Superlongevity Truly Desirable, and The Cyborgs Among Us” that he is finally pointing out the bad/ the things that will come if this happens to become a thing. I believe the authors perspective in the article is neutral because the author adds both the positive and negative to the movement of longer life span but, I believe the author in the future would swing more towards the movement because he adds more positive things to the positive side than the negative side.

Dunked On Under the Water

On my way to the run of a lifetime, one to help those in need, those who have no help in what they do. I look at him with the eyes of 12-year-old me with eyes of golden brown, so many people but, only one sticks out to me; from his stand to his voice I see the man that will now have changed my life forever. I never had any idea of changing how my life was but, that all changed when I realized who the man is, while is stood on stage speaking only truth that is when I understood how terrible my life was, I never understood til 15-year-old me finally let go of pride on and allowed the man on stage dunk my underwater and allowed me to change my life forever.  I will never forget my pastor Kenny Nix and my lord and savior for what they both have done for me and what they are still doing for me. I will always remember the moment of my baptism and major life change for not just me but, for my whole family.

The Scarlet Letter Language

Hawthorne Language is very strange to the eyes of the modern people, but the words he used are so important and so strong. The Scarlet letter is a very dark American past but, not many people see it, nor heard about how rough it was but Nathanial used words that helped us understand the pain back then like Gallows, Meager, & Scaffold. These words when you read them you can see a badness around them but, in Hawthorne’s words you see that these words have a more important in the way he uses them and sets them in sentences.

Theme in the The Scarlet Letter

The Scarlet Letter portrays many different themes the main two themes are Guilt & Isolation. We see these two are shown throughout everywhere in “The Scarlet Letter”, We see that Mr.Dimmsdale was guilty about dying and lying about it just like in “The Green Mile”, With the part in the movie where Hank’s character is explaining to his lady friend about why he is so much older than he looks, we see is guilty of living longer than the prisoner who was put on death row who saved his life.

Wait are you talking to me?

As a student who listens most of the time I believe I listen more than I talk, But I have had one of those people who talk and talk no matter what the subject is they talk. I’m also one of those people who acts like they listen but secretly thinks ” How do the greatest murderers get away?”, The ears hear so much yet we listen so little and its insane how we forget so much. Growing up we’re taught to always listen to our teachers and our parents and elders and were taught to remember history and equations in elementary school but how we forget all that when we enter high school…The reason is that our brain still grows soooooo much more through life and yes we learn and hold onto things that are always there but somethings just don’t stick. I read an article called “Listening is an Overlooked Leadership Tool” and its write by Melissa Daimler, and she goes into her own story and a bit more of research about how there are 3 different types of listeners the Internal Listening, Focused listening, and the 360 listening. And how we can become better listeners when in a class or just talking with a friend. So ask yourself are you listening or are you “Listening”.
